What is Periodontics?
Periodontics involves the treatment of conditions affecting the periodontium, namely the tissues holding the teeth. These are infectious diseases caused by bacteria.
Gingivitis and Periodontitis
There are two groups of periodontal conditions: gingivitis (superficial inflammation) and periodontitis (irreversible destruction of the periodontal tissues: primarily bone and gums).
Dental implants can also suffer from similar conditions. These are called mucositis and peri-implantitis.
The key here is prevention and maintenance
The goal of our Periodontics service is to prevent the occurrence of any periodontal condition and, if already there, to create the right conditions to manage it over time.
